PRESS RELEASE

THERE IS NO RECESSION IN NEW ZEALAND

“Music in New Zealand today is a bruising, scrappy game, played in bad conditions on slanting pitches - with referees that are either absent, negligent or insane. However, hard times breed good records; and the songs are the winners on the day. Pick up your guitar and write one. Now!”
- Don McGlashan

Ok, so New Zealand along with the rest of the world is going through a bit of a rough patch... again.

Here at KIWI FM we want to prove that just because there is an economic recession; it doesn’t mean there has to be a creative recession.

With the like minded heads at York Street Recording Studio, we came up with a little competition. We’re asking all the singer/songwriters out there to submit original songs, of a happy nature, to lift the spirits of Aotearoa and prove that although we might be down, we are not out.

All entries will be considered by a panel of judges from KIWI FM and York Street. The top five will be selected then uploaded to the kiwifm.co.nz so the public can choose the winner.

The winning artist will then record their song at York Street Recording Studios with Pop Science - a superstar session band made up of some of the best musicians New Zealand has to offer, including Scotty Pearson from Elemeno P, Clint Harris from Opshop and Stephen Small from Autozamm and The Verlaines. Between them, Pop Science have 51 albums, 14 New Zealand Music Awards and 1.36 Million Myspace views. Pretty Impressive.

Once the song has been recorded, mixed and mastered, Digital Rights Management (DRM) will release the track digitally to the world so you can tell all your friends to go and buy it. If they have any money that is…

So if you want to have a crack, or know someone that might be interested, send us your demo and a 100 word bio to studio@kiwifm.co.nz.

Righto.
