A review is one man's opinion. The language may need to be improved but can any of the rest of you do any better all the time, submit your own reviews! Help out!

So what, yes my name is Aaron and I am AK. I wrote all those reviews. I help out Dunedin musicians by writing reviews. I I don't hide behind an anonymous username and slag off other people's hard work.

And Matt, thank you for your comments. No one is perfect.

bought me a great deal of joy.

One could argue, Aaron, that 'AK' is just as anonymous as any other username on here. I like that you singled me out though. Nice one.
Are Dunedin bands/musicians/writers really THAT worried about having some faceless entity 'slag' them off on the internet? Surely that's easier to take than someone heckling you at a show, or a bad review in a magazine. Both of which are reasonably likely to occur, if you want to achieve any sort of longevity and exposure.
New Zealand has a culture of tall poppies syndrome, we're forever helping each other up only to pull back down those who threaten to climb too high. The internet, for better or worse, just helps to facilitate this.
Personally, I've experienced all three types of criticism, both in music and writing, and can honestly say that I've appreciated it. Those who've seemed honest and genuine, or have made good points, I've taken on board, those who criticise less my writing or the music brains make, and more us as people (kind of absurd in its own right, as this kind of criticism has never come from anyone I'd term as anything more than a very vague acquaintance) I really couldn't care less about.
Perhaps, Aaron, it's time you started paying attention to your critics. Maybe read something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Music-Writin ... 0306817349
Though, of course, that's just a suggestion.

p.s. Clap Clap Riot are the worst band I've ever played with, and also [forking] dicks. And our set that night was longer than theirs.

Well guys, I'm gonna stick my hand up and say that I'm keen to start writing reviews. Send me your stuff or stick me on the door at your gig and I'll do my best to constructively pull your music to bits and see what happens.

I WILL write my opinion, but will do so with an intent of objectivity. You may not like what I have to say, but hopefully you can take something from it to improve what you do.

As some of you know I am Andy from the Biff Merchants. I have some good friends in the local music scene, so I will do my best to put on a reviewers hat and not that of a friend who wants to cuddle and make you feel good about your band. If I offend you in any way, take it on the chin and don't go holding grudges.

Maybe I should make an alias?

Well thank you Matt for your reply. I shall take your comments on board certainly. Some of the remarks made by others though can not exactly be appreciated or can be deemed conducive or constructive when I don't understand where they are coming from in their remarks. I do pay attention to their remarks, I am no better than anyone else.

Anyway, all publicity is good publicity.

Cheers

Aaron Kearney.
