Last things first:

@SLN: no worries mate.

@irulz(2): we'll take you up on that... help is always appreciated! Who's Mike?

@irulz(1): I think it's this: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=177&p=512#p512

@blixa and scurvy(2): I believe members of almost all (like, 90%+) the artists have posted on the site, but blixa is right, there are a great number of people that for a good number of reasons don't take active part in the forums, but the forums are not (by numbers) the whole site, and indeed the business does a bunch off stuff offline as well. We're just hopin' for a good party! 8)

@scurvy(1): Well, this is probably not the time or place for a full history, but from what I can tell, that post from irulz up there was in the first user-generated thread, on July the 21st, 2005. So that's when the site, in roughly this shape, went live.
Previous to that there was a green site consisting of a rarely-used forum and the odd article - that was launched in early 2003 and went offline for upgrades that never happened in 2004. That site was started by Rob and Hugh.
The company was founded by Rob, Hugh, Scott and John in, I believe, 2004, and when I moved back from Welly in 2005 I offered to build the thing in return for a share of the company, a bottle of whisky, a rough hessian sack filled with northern German sausages and Scott's first-born. I think I started work in early July.
We rebuilt the layout a year later, and I think maybe a year after that launched the store. We are now underway with a whole raft of upgrades and overhauls that should begin to roll out soon and culminate with a fully rebuilt core dunedinmusic.com at some point in the vaguely foreseeable future.

There you go!

I won't say who Mike is out of respect to him and netiquette and all that jazz. Who'll turn up soon enough though, usually does.

Yeah I remember being asked to the initial meetings, a phone call in Scott's office, involving Scott wringing out a web developer dude, telling him everything Evan can offer. The ratio was something like 20:3 in Evan's favour. I remember the old website where people started personal threads between each other, Hugh telling me not to bother with, ya know, certain journalists whom I thought could have input... Old skoolz!

Fair enough, and thanks for the historical notes Evan. It's going to be a killer of a day. I should be able to help as well, if you need it.

Whatever, but the line up and the dedication behind this epic day can't be denied. I reminded myself recently we are here for 'the music', not all the bullcrud that can surround it. 'Let the music speak for itself' is my philosophy from now on.
